Rock, Wood, Silver - Reflections on a beautifully balanced show.
Rock, Wood, Silver - the most inspiring show I've taken part in.
Mel Fraser's exuberant, expressive energy combined with Loukas Morley's refined Zen aesthetic created an exciting but balanced show, full of delights but with space for each piece to breathe.
EDIT : To our delight we've been allowed to leave the show up for the next few weeks.
We're planning a closing weekend event on December 13-14th - Click here for details.
Many people commented on how the works complemented each other. With Mel's ethereal stone sculpture and Loukas's new earthy burr wood turned forms, both giving an elemental quality to the show, and my jewellery bridging the gap with both textured and watery pieces.
Both Mel & Loukas are sensitive but bold, abundantly imaginative designer-makers, exceptionally highly skilled in their fields.
It was a real honour to be included in the mix of their work. In the few quieter moments during the show, just sitting and absorbing the beauty of the work was a luxury.
The technical skills Loukas has acquired installing shows in colleges and museums over the years aptly came into play.
This tastefully renovated and purpose built gallery was designed by Ronald Pile (the owner of Primavera Gallery in the 1980s-90s). It made the perfect backdrop to the work.
Both Loukas and Mel encouraged me to rethink and elevate my display to fit the feel. It was a real treat to arrange my pieces in a considered way. Huge thanks to Loukas for his time and skill in making the new display.
Ronald and Loukas share a similar thoughtful aesthetic and have a meticulous attention to detail which added to the harmonious feel of the show.
Mel added a warm heart to the show - visitors were welcomed with her extraordinary floral arrangements and ladles of mulled wine.
Thank you!
A Big Thanks to everyone who made the effort to find us in this (so far) little known gallery space.
A huge thanks to Ronald, for his advice, experience as a gallerist and generosity in letting us show together; as well as Jon, Gail, Miles, Isaac, Emily, Sean and Lyla for their support, help installing, and time on the welcome desk!
